Route 684
In the 1970’s the “downtown” area of Goldens Bridge had to be moved yet again! This time it was for the completion of interstate 684.
Until then, Route 684 ended in Katonah and travelers had to take Route 22 through Goldens Bridge and North Salem to reach Interstate 84 in Brewster.
During construction, a temporary shopping center was built as most of the Goldens Bridge commercial area was wiped out by the highway. The current highway is about 115 feet of pavement wide.
The construction of Route 684 was completed in December of 1974.
